Crystal Data Systems was formed in 1985 to provide network support for local Federal government support of networks and computer systems and to market commercial software products. The company's reputation for reliable, high-performance computer equipment and systems led to a contract that provided computational power for Delta Airlines' reservation systems and supported NASA's Internet before the World Wide Web became public domain. Crystal Data Systems spawned Traveller Information Services, one of the nation's first regional Internet Service Providers. Traveller Information Systems' streaming media business was rebranded and launched as LiveOnTheNet.com, one of the Internet's premier streaming media companies, which was subsequently purchased by Thermo Electron. LiveOnTheNet.com provided streaming media attracted a number of national content and channel partners to the network. The company provided Sir Paul McCartney with an internet presence in his 1997 and 1999 New York webcasts and provided ground-breaking daily international coverage of the Cannes Film Festival. The LiveOnTheNet.com business model relied upon the sophisticated remote video acquisition, content management and database technologies that have become Crystal Data International's products and services today.

In 2003, Crystal Data's wireless webcasting experience was called upon by an ISP whose unreliable wireless network was becoming an issue to its government and industrial customers. Crystal Data made the network dependable, and several of the network's customers sought Crystal Data's help in building out networks for projects as varied as top-secret surveillance to sharing medical images over a large virtual campus. In 2006, Crystal Data wrote management tools for VoIP and launched Atlas VoIP to serve its business and government clients with IP telephony. In the same year, the company began writing ServerInSight, it's proprietary server OS to support web-enabled remote sensor networks.

Today, Crystal Data provides advanced integration for medical and governmental remote sensing applications. Its medical operations allow hospitals to share x-ray images, MRI image data, CT scan data and 3D heart scans across a 160-square-mile area. Crystal Data's government operations include data transmission to off-campus buildings; traffic observation; and the deployment of a number of types of data transmission infrastructure in areas where telecom infrastructure does not ordinarily exist.

Crystal Data International was created by the founders of Crystal Data Systems to expand their business specifically into central Asia.
